Freelance Graphic Design Rates: Graphic Design Freelance Pricing, Hourly Rates and a Graphic Design Price List
Set your rate from what it takes to earn a real US wage, not from the global average. Put your hourly rate in the builder and it prices a flyer, an infographic and a logo using Upwork's own hour estimates, then shows what you keep after the platform takes its cut.

The short answer
Freelance graphic design rates on Upwork run $15 to $35 an hour, with an average of about $25. A US freelancer who wants to take home the national median for graphic designers, $62,960 a year (BLS, May 2025), has to bill about $85 an hour on an 8% platform, or $98 on Fiverr. At $85, Upwork's own hour estimates price a logo at $425 to $1,700, an infographic at $340 to $1,700 and a flyer at $85 to $850. The $25 average, billed full time, leaves roughly $10,000 a year.

Freelance graphic design rates, by source and sample
Every row names where the number came from and how many people sit behind it. Federal figures are employed wages; the Upwork rows are what freelancers on that platform actually list.
| Source | Rate | What it measures | Sample and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| BLS, graphic designers, lowest 10% | Under $19.00/hr | Employed, under $39,520 a year | Federal survey, May 2025 |
| BLS, graphic designers, median | $30.27/hr | Employed, $62,960 a year | Federal survey, 253,100 jobs |
| BLS, graphic designers, highest 10% | Over $50.44/hr | Employed, over $104,910 a year | Federal survey, May 2025 |
| Upwork, graphic designers | $15 to $35/hr | Median band of freelance rates | Upwork cost page, Sep 2026 |
| Upwork, graphic designers | About $25/hr | Average freelance rate, range $15 to $150 | Upwork cost page, Sep 2026 |
| Upwork, logo designers | $15 to $30/hr | Median band of freelance rates | Upwork hire page, Jul 2026 |
| Upwork, top logo designers | $25 to $75/hr | Most between $35 and $50 | Upwork cost page, Dec 2025 |
| Indeed, graphic designer | $23.40/hr | Average of reported salaries | 6,000 salaries, Aug 2026 |
BLS hourly figures are annual wages divided by 2,080 hours. The Bureau also reports that about 20% of graphic designers are self-employed and projects employment to fall 2% from 2025 to 2035, while still opening about 16,000 roles a year through turnover. Upwork's average is global, and its own listings show designers at $7 to $9 an hour in some countries and $65 in Los Angeles, which is why the average says little about US pricing.

What you have to charge to earn a US design wage
The employed median is a salary. As a freelancer you pay the other half of payroll tax, your own health cover and software, and you only bill part of the hours you work. These are the hourly rates that close that gap.
$58 / hr at 8%
$67 an hour if you sell on Fiverr, where 20% comes off every order before you see it.
$85 / hr at 8%
$98 an hour if you sell on Fiverr, where 20% comes off every order before you see it.
$133 / hr at 8%
$153 an hour if you sell on Fiverr, where 20% comes off every order before you see it.
How those numbers are built
A 40-hour week with six weeks off is 1,840 working hours. At 60% billable, which is a realistic share once you count pitching, briefs, invoicing and the revision you didn't scope, that is 1,104 hours you can charge for. Add $6,000 of software, hardware and insurance and $7,200 of health cover, then self-employment tax at 15.3% on 92.35% of profit. Divide by the billable hours and gross up for the platform fee. Change any input on the freelance rate calculator.
What the $25 average actually pays
Bill Upwork's $25 average across the same 1,104 hours and you invoice $27,600. A 10% talent fee takes $2,760, expenses and health cover take $13,200, and self-employment tax takes about $1,645. What is left is roughly $10,000 a year, before income tax. On Fiverr at the same rate it is about $7,600. Global averages are a fine thing to know and a terrible thing to price from if your rent is in dollars.

Hours are Upwork's own time estimates for each project. Prices are those hours at Upwork's $25 average, the $85 median-wage break-even and the $133 top-10% break-even, rounded to the nearest $5.
| Deliverable | Upwork's hour estimate | At $25/hr | At $85/hr | At $133/hr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flyer | 1 to 10+ | $25 to $250 | $85 to $850 | $135 to $1,330 |
| Infographic | 4 to 20+ | $100 to $500 | $340 to $1,700 | $530 to $2,660 |
| Logo | 5 to 20+ | $125 to $500 | $425 to $1,700 | $665 to $2,660 |
Why the ranges are so wide
Upwork gives the reason itself: how detailed the brief is, whether a template exists, whether copy and images arrive final and correctly sized, and how many people sit in the approval chain. A flyer from a finished brief and a supplied template is an hour. The same flyer with no copy, three stakeholders and a logo that only exists as a JPEG is ten.
That is the case for tiers. Put the one-hour version in Basic with the inputs you require, and put the ten-hour version in Premium with what it includes. The buyer picks the tier that matches the brief they actually have, and you stop absorbing the difference.
Logo pricing in particular
Logos carry the widest spread in the market. Upwork lists logo designers at $15 to $30 an hour and its top logo designers at $25 to $75, most between $35 and $50. At Upwork's five to twenty hours, the $35 to $50 band most top-rated designers charge prices a logo between $175 and $1,000. If you want copy-ready tier descriptions to go with the price, the logo design gig description samples page has three, each under Fiverr's 1,200-character limit.
How to price
Build a graphic design pricing sheet in four steps
Find your floor
Work out the hourly rate that clears the take-home you need. For the US median that is about $85 an hour on an 8% platform. Keep it private; it is your floor, not your headline.
Time your deliverables
Log real hours on your last five jobs of each type, from brief to final files, including emails and revisions. Compare them with Upwork's estimates and use the higher of the two.
Price and round
Multiply hours by your floor, round up to a clean number, and add a line for what is included: concepts, revision rounds, file formats and turnaround. Anything outside it is an extra.
Publish as tiers
Group the list into Basic, Standard and Premium so buyers can order without a call. A fixed tier gets compared on value; an hourly quote gets compared on rate.
For the tier structure itself, the guide to packaging a service into Basic, Standard and Premium walks through what goes in each level and how far apart to price them.
What the platform keeps
One $425 logo, six places to sell it
Five hours at the $85 break-even. Spread is the platform's total cut from both sides as a share of what the client paid, so a platform that charges the buyer cannot hide half of it.
| Platform | Designer keeps | Client pays | Spread |
|---|---|---|---|
| FreelanceNation Studio | $412.25 | $425.00 | 3.0% |
| FreelanceNation Pro | $403.75 | $425.00 | 5.0% |
| FreelanceNation Starter | $391.00 | $425.00 | 8.0% |
| Contra, free plan | $425.00 | $440.00 | 3.4% |
| Upwork, 10% talent fee | $382.50 | $446.25 | 14.3% |
| Fiverr | $340.00 | $448.38 | 24.2% |
The honest read: Contra's flat $15 client fee beats our Starter and Pro plans on a $425 logo, and only Studio is cheaper. It flips on small orders, where a flat fee is a big share of a $100 flyer. Fiverr is the most expensive at every size and gets worse below $200, when its buyer pays 5.5% plus $3.50. Leaving an in-house job
You earned around the $30.27 median as an employee. Quoting that as a freelance rate is a pay cut of more than half once tax, cover and unbilled hours are counted. Start from $85 and adjust from your real hours.
Moving off Fiverr
Your gigs are priced for a 20% commission and a buyer who also pays 5.5%. On an 8% platform the same take-home needs about 13% less on the price tag, which is room to either compete or keep the difference.
Adding design to a studio
A web or brand studio selling logos and collateral alongside bigger projects needs fixed line items the client can approve without a call. A price list with tiers turns small design jobs into orders instead of emails.
If you are still choosing where to list, the roundup of the best platforms to sell graphic design services compares every venue's fees on a $150 and a $600 order.
Questions designers ask
Freelance graphic design rates: common questions
The questions designers type before they set a price, answered first sentence first.
How much should a freelance graphic designer charge per hour?
A US freelance graphic designer who wants to take home the national median of $62,960 needs to bill about $85 an hour. That assumes 1,104 billable hours a year, $13,200 of expenses and health cover, self-employment tax, and an 8% platform fee. On Fiverr the same target needs about $98, because the 20% commission comes out first.
What is the average hourly rate for a freelance graphic designer?
Upwork reports an average of around $25 an hour, with a median band of $15 to $35 and a range from $15 to $150. That average is global. Employed US graphic designers earn a median of $30.27 an hour according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, before the freelancer pays the costs an employer used to cover.
How much do graphic designers charge for a logo?
Upwork estimates a logo at 5 to 20 or more hours of work, so the price follows the rate: $125 to $500 at Upwork's $25 average, and $425 to $1,700 at the $85 a US designer needs to match the median wage. Upwork lists top logo designers at $25 to $75 an hour, most between $35 and $50.
How do I create a graphic design price list?
Start from your hourly break-even, estimate each deliverable in hours, multiply, and round to a clean number. Add a revision limit and a turnaround time to every line, then group them into Basic, Standard and Premium tiers. The builder at the top of this page does the multiplication for flyers, infographics, logos and one item of your own.
What should be included in a graphic design pricing sheet?
Each line needs the deliverable, the price, what files the client gets, how many concepts and revision rounds are included, the turnaround, and what counts as extra. A pricing sheet that only lists prices invites scope creep; one that states revisions and file formats prevents most disputes before they start.
Should graphic designers charge hourly or per project?
Price per project and use the hourly rate to set it. Buyers compare fixed prices faster and argue less about them, and a fixed price stops a fast designer being paid less for being good. Keep the hourly number private as your floor, and quote hourly only for open-ended retainers or production work.
Why are graphic design rates on Upwork so low?
Because the Upwork average mixes every country on the platform. Upwork's own rate listings include designers at $7 to $9 an hour in some markets and $65 in Los Angeles. A US designer billing the $25 average full time would take home roughly $10,000 a year after a 10% fee, expenses and self-employment tax.
How much do graphic designers charge for a flyer?
Upwork estimates a flyer at one to more than ten hours, depending on whether a template, copy and images are supplied. At $85 an hour that prices a flyer between $85 and $850. Most designers sell a single-sided flyer from a supplied brief near the bottom of that range and charge more when they write or source the content.
How much does a freelance graphic designer make a year?
There is no federal figure for freelancers alone, but the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median for all graphic designers at $62,960 in May 2025, with the top 10% above $104,910. About 20% of graphic designers are self-employed. What a freelancer keeps depends mostly on billable hours and the platform fee.
Do platform fees change what I should charge as a designer?
Yes. On a $425 logo, Fiverr's 20% leaves the designer $340, while an 8% commission leaves $391, and Fiverr's client also pays $448.38 for the same logo. To clear the median wage you need about $85 an hour on an 8% platform and about $98 on a 20% one.
Put your price list where clients can buy from it
Turn the list into Basic, Standard and Premium tiers on a shareable gig page. Clients see the price, pick a tier and check out without a call, pay no buyer fee, and you keep 92% on Starter, 95% on Pro and 97% on Studio.
