Why the monthly plans only pay off once your queue is full
Every flat-fee plan in that table is a bet on volume. Ko-fi Gold costs $12 a month and removes a 5% fee, so it pays for itself once you sell $240 of commissions in a month. Payhip Plus beats Payhip Free above $966.67 a month, and Payhip Pro beats Plus above $3,500. Our own ladder works the same way: Pro beats Starter above $333.33 a month in sales, and Studio beats Pro above $1,500. Below those lines the percentage plan is cheaper, and plenty of artists pay for a subscription months before their queue justifies it. The bigger lever is price, and the wage data says most commission sheets are set too low. The federal median for fine artists and illustrators is $26.68 an hour, and that is an employed figure, with no self-employment tax, no unpaid sketch revisions and no evenings spent answering DMs. A $150 half-body piece that takes six hours of drawing plus an hour of messages pays $21.43 an hour before any platform touches it, which is below the employed median. Raising that same piece to $220 does more for your income than any fee switch in the table, because the entire spread from the worst platform to the best is $31.05 on $150.

Yes, on the free plan. Ko-fi keeps one-time tips fee-free but charges 5% on commissions, shop sales and memberships, plus normal processor fees. Ko-fi Gold removes the service fee for $12 a month, which pays for itself once you sell more than $240 of commissions in a month.

Yes, as custom or made-to-order listings. Etsy charges $0.20 per listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total and, for US sellers, 3% plus $0.25 in payment processing. Is Fiverr good for art commissions?
