The short answer
DeviantArt no longer offers commissions. It stopped new listings on May 1, 2026 and removed the feature on July 1, 2026. Its replacement, Originals, takes a platform fee of 20% without Core, 15% on Core+, 10% on Core Pro and 5% on Pro+ or Max, plus 3.5% and $0.30 processing, where Core members used to pay 0% on commissions. Without Core you also cannot sell anything over $100.

DeviantArt Originals fees
What an Original keeps you on each Core tier
The platform fee plus 3.5% and $0.30 processing, at three common commission sizes. "Not allowed" means the price is above that tier's sale cap.
| Membership | Price | Originals fee | Sale cap | $50 sketch | $150 half body | $400 full piece |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| No Core | $0 | 20% | $100 | $37.95 | Not allowed | Not allowed |
| Core+ | $6.67/mo, billed yearly | 15% | $1,000 | $40.45 | $121.95 | $325.70 |
| Core Pro | $8.33/mo, billed yearly | 10% | $10,000 | $42.95 | $129.45 | $345.70 |
| Core Pro+ | $12.50/mo, billed yearly | 5% | $10,000 | $45.45 | $136.95 | $365.70 |
| Core Max | $16.67/mo, billed yearly | 5% | $15,000 | $45.45 | $136.95 | $365.70 |
Source: DeviantArt help center fee table and the Core membership page, read 1 October 2026. Core prices are shown per month but paid as one yearly charge, roughly $80, $100, $150 and $200. Withdrawal fees to PayPal, Stripe or BitPay vary by provider and come on top.
The $100 cap is the part that hurts new artists
A non-Core seller cannot list a $150 half body as an Original at all, whatever fee they are willing to pay. Anyone pricing for a living wage hits the cap on their second tier, so the real entry price for selling custom art on DeviantArt is a Core+ membership, and that tier carries the highest Core fee.
Core Pro+ and Max cost the same per sale
Both take 5% on Originals. Max adds a higher sale cap ($15,000 against $10,000) and other perks for about $50 more a year, which matters to almost nobody selling character art. If you stay on DeviantArt for Originals, Pro+ is the tier that pays for itself first.
Before and after, and the alternative
Four $150 commissions a month, every option priced in full
Platform fee, processing and the membership or plan, per month. Our rows include card processing at Stripe's US rate of 2.9% and $0.30, because our marketplace fee is billed separately from the payment.
| Where you sell | Monthly cost | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| DeviantArt Originals, Core+ | $118.87 | Was $28.87 under Commissions at 0% |
| DeviantArt Originals, Core Pro | $90.53 | Was $30.53 under Commissions at 0% |
| DeviantArt Originals, Core Pro+ | $64.70 | Was $34.70 under Commissions at 0% |
| FreelanceNation Starter + Stripe | $75.60 | $9 a month, 8% marketplace fee |
| FreelanceNation Pro + Stripe | $67.60 | $19 a month, 5% marketplace fee |
| FreelanceNation Studio + Stripe | $85.60 | $49 a month, 3%, pays off at higher volume |
The honest read
At $600 a month, Core Pro+ is the cheapest row on the table, $2.90 a month under our Pro plan. If your buyers live on DeviantArt and find you through its feeds, upgrading to Pro+ and listing Originals is a reasonable answer. Core+ and Core Pro are a different story: both now cost more than any of our plans at this volume, and Core+ costs $90 a month more than it did before July.
The bigger question is who buys. DeviantArt sells to DeviantArt members. Authors, streamers, indie studios and small brands search Google for an illustrator and want a price, a scope and a way to order, which is what a gig page is built to rank for. Our full fee comparison across VGen, Ko-fi, Etsy and Fiverr is in art commission sites compared by fee.
Moving your queue
Move your DeviantArt commissions without losing clients
-
1
Rebuild your price sheet as fixed tiers
Turn each old commission listing into a tier with what it includes, the revision limit, turnaround and price. Three tiers (headshot, half body, full piece) cover most character artists. Our guide to art commission prices has a worked sheet.
-
2
Publish the tiers on a page you own
A gig page shows the tiers, examples and terms, takes the brief, and records the order, so the scope is in writing before you sketch.
-
3
Post one journal and one pinned link
Write a short DeviantArt journal saying where commissions moved, pin it, and put the same link in your profile and socials. Old clients look on your profile first.
-
4
Keep DeviantArt for discovery
Your gallery still brings fans. Keep posting there and point every commission question at the new page, or list a few small Originals for buyers who prefer to pay in Points.
Pricing help for the first step is in art commission prices, and if you need a printable menu, the art commission sheet maker builds one from the same tiers.
No $100 cap. You keep 92%, 95% or 97% before card processing.
Who should move
Three kinds of DeviantArt sellers who come out ahead on their own page
You were on Core+ or Core Pro
You paid 0% on commissions and now pay 15% or 10% on Originals. At four $150 pieces a month that is $60 to $90 more every month for the same work.
Your clients came from outside DeviantArt
If buyers found you through Instagram, X, Discord or a Google search, DeviantArt was only the checkout. A gig page does the checkout and can rank on its own.
You sell above $100 without Core
A non-Core account cannot list a half body at $150. Rather than buying a yearly membership to lift a cap, list the tier where there is none.

Questions artists ask
DeviantArt commissions questions, answered
Each answer leads with the direct reply, from DeviantArt's own help center wherever it says something.
Does DeviantArt still do commissions?
No. DeviantArt disabled new commission listings on May 1, 2026 and removed the commissions feature on July 1, 2026, according to its own help center. Requests made before July 1 could be accepted or declined until July 7. The closest replacement on the site is Originals, custom orders delivered as one-of-a-kind Exclusives, which carry a platform fee.
What replaced commissions on DeviantArt?
Originals. DeviantArt describes them as custom orders requested by fans and delivered as one-of-a-kind Exclusives, covering YCH, custom avatars, adoptable sheets, outfits, animations and more, with optional add-ons. The difference that matters is the fee: commissions were 0% for Core members, while Originals take 15%, 10% or 5% depending on the Core tier, and 20% without Core.
How much does DeviantArt take from Originals?
DeviantArt takes a platform fee of 20% without Core, 15% on Core+, 10% on Core Pro and 5% on Core Pro+ and Core Max, plus a processing fee of 3.5% and $0.30 on each sale. On a $150 Original that leaves $121.95 on Core+, $129.45 on Core Pro and $136.95 on Core Pro+. Withdrawal fees to PayPal, Stripe or BitPay come on top.
Can I still sell commissions on DeviantArt without Core?
Only small ones. Without a Core membership DeviantArt caps the sale price at $100, takes a 20% platform fee and adds 3.5% and $0.30 in processing, so a $100 Original pays you $76.20. A half body at $150 or a full piece at $400 cannot be listed at all without at least Core+, which raises the cap to $1,000.
What happened to my pending DeviantArt commissions?
Requests submitted by July 1, 2026 stayed in your Notifications until July 7, 2026, where you could accept or decline them, according to DeviantArt's help center. After that date the feature is gone, so a client who still wants the piece has to order it another way: as an Original on DeviantArt or directly with you on a page you control.
Is DeviantArt Core worth it for selling art now?
It is worth it if most of your buyers are DeviantArt members and you sell more than a few pieces a month. Core Pro+ at about $150 a year with a 5% fee is the cheapest way to keep selling to that community. If your clients are businesses or come from your own socials, a per-sale fee on a page you own usually costs less than paying for a tier and a percentage.
Where can I take commissions instead of DeviantArt?
Choose by where your buyers are. VGen and Ko-fi suit fan, OC and VTuber clients. Etsy suits custom gifts and portraits. A gig page of your own suits clients who search Google or follow your link, such as authors, streamers and small studios, because it shows fixed tiers, takes the brief and records the order in one place.
Why did DeviantArt remove commissions?
DeviantArt says the older feature no longer met creators' needs and that it is moving seller tools into Studio. In practice the replacement, Originals, charges a platform fee that commissions did not charge Core members. DeviantArt has not published anything further, so treat any other reason you read as a guess.
Is there a price limit on DeviantArt sales?
Yes. DeviantArt lists a maximum sale price of $100 without Core, $1,000 on Core+, $10,000 on Core Pro and Core Pro+, and $15,000 on Core Max. For most character art the Core+ ceiling is enough, but a non-Core account cannot sell anything above a sketch or a simple headshot.
